APR.Intern Research Internships

Through ANZIIF’s collaboration with APR.Intern, Australian insurance organisations can access postgraduate researchers to undertake focused research internships lasting three to six months.

Researchers bring advanced analytical skills, specialist knowledge and contemporary research methods to defined business challenges and strategic projects.

APR.Intern manages the researcher matching, university engagement, agreements and placement administration, helping your organisation focus on the project and its outcomes.

What is APR.Intern?

APR.Intern is Australia’s national postgraduate research internship program, operated by the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute.

The program connects organisations with PhD and Masters by Research students from Australian universities. Each researcher is supported by an academic mentor throughout the internship.

Research internships are designed around a specific organisational challenge, opportunity or area requiring focused investigation.

Why engage a postgraduate researcher?

A research internship can help your organisation:

  • Access advanced research, analytical and technical expertise.
  • Investigate a defined business challenge or opportunity.
  • Apply evidence-based research to strategic decision-making.
  • Bring fresh perspectives and contemporary thinking into the organisation.
  • Build relationships with emerging talent and Australia’s university sector.
  • Access potential project subsidies, subject to eligibility and availability.

What could a research intern help you explore?

Research internships may support projects involving:

  • Data analysis, forecasting and predictive modelling.
  • Risk analysis and financial modelling.
  • Artificial intelligence and digital transformation.
  • Product and service innovation.
  • Customer engagement and market analysis.
  • Claims trends and cost management.
  • Operational efficiency and process improvement.
  • Emerging risks and changing market conditions.

These examples are not exhaustive. Projects are developed according to your organisation’s objectives, available data and required research outcomes.

How does the program work?

1. Discuss your business challenge

Speak with ANZIIF’s Mark Ryan about the challenge, opportunity or research question your organisation would like to explore.

2. Scope the project

APR.Intern will work with your organisation to define the project objectives, required expertise, timeframe and expected outcomes.

3. Find the right researcher

APR.Intern will identify suitable postgraduate researchers from Australian universities.

4. Commence the internship

The selected researcher will undertake a focused three-to-six-month placement, supported by an academic mentor.

5. Apply the research

Your organisation will receive research, analysis and recommendations developed around the agreed project.

How long does an internship run and what does it cost?

APR.Intern research internships generally run for three to six months, depending on the project scope and required outcomes.

The industry contribution currently starts from $19,900 plus GST for a three-month internship. This includes the researcher’s stipend and APR.Intern’s program management services.

Longer internships are available, and eligible organisations may be able to access subsidies to help offset the cost of a placement.

APR.Intern will confirm current pricing, available funding and project eligibility during the initial discussion.
