ANZIIF’s annual General Insurance Breakfast is back. Now in its 33rd year, this is a must attend event for insurance professionals who are keen to learn about the critical and current issues that are shaping the general insurance industry.

We will be joined by a panel of insurance experts who will reflect on the current market, explore issues and opportunities, and discuss what the future holds.

In 2021, this event will be adapted to a hybrid format. If you are unable to attend in-person, tickets are available to attend virtually.

This event is conducted under Chatham House Rules to promote openness and the sharing of information between colleagues.

    Regional Head of Australia & New Zealand | General Representative in Australia and Vanuatu

    Chris Mackinnon joined Lloyd’s in February 2015 with responsibility for market development, and for liaising with market practitioners and regulatory authorities to maintain Lloyd’s presence in Australia, New Zealand and Vanuatu.

    Chris has over 30 years’ experience in the international insurance industry, principally as an Insurance Broker, with extensive knowledge of both the Australian and London markets.

    In addition to his role at Lloyd’s, Chris is also an Associate Director of the Underwriting Agencies Council in Australia, a Non-Executive Director of the Insurance Council of Australia, and Chairman of the Australian Organizing Committee of the Dive In Festival, the festival for diversity and inclusion in the Insurance Industry.

    Chris is qualified as a Senior Associate of the Australian & New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance, and is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

    Chief Executive Officer – Multinational Clients (International)

    Jason has worked in the insurance industry for over 29 years and was appointed to the role of Chief Executive Officer – Multinational Clients (International) on 1 September 2017. In this role Jason is responsible for Aon’s Multinational Client strategy outside the United States.

    Prior to this role Jason held the position of Managing Director, Aon Global and Corporate and was responsible for the leadership of Aon’s large client business in Australia for 3 years. He was a member of Aon’s Australian executive team for 7 years.

    Jason is also recognised as one of Aon’s leading risk-financing experts. He is a regular speaker at various professional association conferences regarding emerging risk trends, strategic risk management, risk financing and various general insurance issues. In recognition of his subject matter expertise Jason also chaired the Australian and New Zealand Insurance & Finance Institute’s Risk Management Faculty Advisory Board from 2013 to 2015.

    Before joining QBE, Sue was Managing Director of Insurance for The Westpac Group. She has also held senior leadership and management roles at organisations including Wesfarmers Insurance, Insurance Group Australia and Arthur J Gallagher.

    Sue is a member of the Champions of Change Coalition and President of the Insurance Council of Australia.

    Kurt Nilsen is Managing Director of Lion Underwriting, an independently owned and managed agency. Lion Underwriting was established in March 2015. 

    Kurt began his insurance career in 1994, working for Mutual & Federal, in South Africa. He worked his way up the ladder, starting in riot insurance, domestic and then commercial. He was one of the company’s youngest BDMs.

    After moving to Australia in 2001, he established Australian Professional Underwriting Agencies and became a Lloyd’s coverholder. Kurt is the current Chairman of the Underwriting Agencies Council, first elected to the UAC’s board in December 2013. Kurt holds a Diploma of Financial Services and is an ANZIIF Senior Associate.

    Estelle has played a role in some of Australia’s high-profile insurance milestones – she was the actuarial expert to the HIH Royal Commission and more recently the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

    She worked with the State and Federal Governments on the Liability Crisis back in the early 2000s and has continued to advise insurers and governments on personal injury insurance issues.

    Estelle was the President of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia in 2015 and in 2012 was named Actuary of the Year. She has been a member of the Board of the National Disability Insurance Agency since 2017.
