Webinar: Allocating Capital for Climate Extremes

Insurance and reinsurance companies, banks and capital markets use various tools to make decisions on their risk profiles and how to allocate capital against the possibility of catastrophic loss.

This is crucial in ensuring that companies are able to meet their liabilities to individuals, companies and governments that rely on financial support and indemnification to rebuild after disasters and embed resilience. In Australia, the assessment of climate risk has been exacerbated by the consideration of climate change impacts on the frequency and severity of bushfires and floods, for example.

In this webinar, Dr Ryan Springall will articulate how the global financial system uses detailed catastrophe loss and climate models to price risk and allocate capital. Further, he will show how critical it is to have a robust and independent scientific community that is objective in the assessment of climate risks and how climate change models can be used by (re)insurers, banking and government to make financial decisions on climate risk.

※ Please note that this webinar will be held under the Chatham House Rule.
