    Joanne Davis-Calvert is the Head of Policy and Governance at the FMA. The Policy & Governance team is responsible for the development of FMA’s regulatory policy and advice to central government agencies in relation to the regulatory framework for financial services and providers together with providing corporate counsel advice and support to the FMA and its Board. Joanne joined the Securities Commission in 2010 and her background is as a lawyer in the capital markets in London and in financial services and general commercial law teams in New Zealand.

    Brenton is an innovation, strategy and operations specialist experienced in helping entrepreneurs, teams and executives make ideas happen using his unique experience across both startup and corporate businesses. Brenton is the CEO and Co-founder of Insurtech Australia, Australia’s first member organisation supporting the growth of the Australian Insurtech ecosystem. Brenton is also the Chief Commercial Officer of Cover Genius, named Australia’s fastest growing company in 2017, and leads strategy, sales and customer delivery across two continents. Brenton also founded Alpha39, a specialist insurtech advisory helping insurance companies and tech startups to develop and navigate their innovation and insurtech strategies.

    Previously, Brenton was Head of Innovation at MetLife Insurance Australia where he was responsible for embedding innovation and improvement to MetLife’s customer experience. Prior to this, Brenton spent 9 years' with KPMG (the majority in Adelaide), most recently as an innovation specialist. During this time, Brenton consulted in digital, customer experience and innovation projects and was the global program manager for the elevate61 start-up accelerator, whilst advising and mentoring startups in programs like Techstars and ANZ Innovyz Start.

    Richard Deakin is the Insurance Director for CoreLogic, and has worked hands-on with some of NZ’s largest government departments and corporates who understand how daily decisions and operations processes can be improved and supported through powerful, meaningful data and analytics. For the past 14 years, Richard has worked hands on with New Zealand property data focusing for the past five years on helping insurers make the best use of available property data and analytics. Richard was central to the development of Cordell Sum Sure, CoreLogic’s revolutionary “Sum Insured” rebuild estimation platform and is a regular commentator in the media. He has a keen interest in Insurtech and global developments in the Insurance sector, and works closely with CoreLogic’s global insurance solutions teams and partners to monitor developments in this space.

    Anita Hawthorne is General Manager, Customer Experience at Air New Zealand. Since joining Air New Zealand in 1999, Anita has held a variety of different positions including Head of Business Performance and Capability, Head of Logistics, Head of Procurement Excellence and  Manager Airpoints. The strategic, commercial and supplier knowledge gained in these roles combined with her key project implementation experience has provided Anita with a great insight right across the airline. Anita studied at Auckland University, is a Chartered Accountant and a member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply.

    Craig is a co-founder and Director of Delta Insurance. Prior to founding Delta Craig worked for a number of local and global insurance companies in NZ, Australia and the UK. He was most recently the Liability Manager at Lumley NZ and before that he was the European Region Professional Indemnity Manager for AIG based in London. Craig has a Bachelor of Business degree, a Masters in Applied Finance & Investment and a Diploma of Insurance degree with ANZIIF. Craig is also on the Core Working Group of FinTechNZ.

    John is the CEO and founder of Ando Insurance Group Limited, which launched in January with a vision to help shape and challenge the future of the New Zealand insurance industry.  

    John started his insurance career with Sun Alliance in 1977 in Dublin, before spending some years in the UK, then moving to NZ in 1991. John has worked in all operational areas of the industry and has considerable senior leadership experience.  In 2008 John became CEO of Lumley NZ, overseeing the turnaround of the business, a full IT systems implementation, and cultural transformation, all while taking up the challenge of leading the business through the challenging Christchurch earthquake response.

    John has been president and a board member of the Insurance Council of NZ. He is a regular contributor to ANZIIF, having also been a board member and continues to be a popular speaker at industry events. John was recognised as the Insurance Leader of the Year in 2012.

He is experienced in information management, software products & services, sales & marketing, international operations, strategy development, collaborative partnerships and business growth through innovation. Mitchell is the chairman of the NZ Technology Industry Association (NZTech) and the NZ Financial Innovation & Technology Association (FinTechNZ). He is also co-founder of the NZ Health IT Cluster (NZHIT).

    Julian has been leading businesses for more than 14 years in Australia and NZ and has an extensive background in corporate strategy, marketing and customer experience. He is currently leading the customer experience strategy for IAG NZ and prior to that he was the head of corporate strategy and customer experience for Westpac NZ. He also sits on the board of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.

    He describes himself as a customer champion, leader, problem solver, change agent and innovator. When he is not working, he can be found planting trees at the weekend on his 10 acre block in the Kaipara Harbour.

    At 23 years of age Rene co-founded insurance brokerage Frank Risk Management. From the outset, the company focussed on acting for the client and on claims advocacy, quickly making headlines for its radically different approach to disclosing fees instead of taking commissions. Frank Risk was the 2016 winner of the ANZIIF small-medium broker of the year. In 2010 Rene launched Initio, New Zealand’s first automated online platform allowing users to quote, bind and pay for dwelling insurance. Rene leads the Initio and Frank technology initiatives including the development and launch of several other successful online platforms that transact and manage insurance online, including Frankie and FrankieMed. Rene is a graduate of the University of Waikato where he earned a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Management, specialising in commercial and insurance law and majoring in accounting.

    Appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance in 2013, Prue Willsford has over 25 years’ experience in financial services, business and education. 

    Prue joined ANZIIF after ten years as the General Manager of Corporate Operations with State Trustees, overseeing finance, technology, legal, compliance and investments for Victoria’s major private administrator, trustee and estates executor.  Prior to State Trustees she was employed as the Head of Investment Products for NAB, managing the development of financial products for a range of clients across the business. Prue also has experience in various finance, accounting and product management positions for Colonial Mutual and Macquarie Bank.

    Prue is an active volunteer with interests in education and urban development. She is currently a director of civil engineering firm Citywide Services Solutions. Up until her appointment, Prue also served as Deputy Chancellor of Victoria University, a 55,000 student university based in Melbourne, as part of which she was involved in the university’s governance and ceremonial duties. 

    Prue holds a Bachelor of Laws from the Queensland University of Technology. She is an ANZIIF Senior Associate and a Fellow of both the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Governance Institute of Australia.
