AQF Certificate IV in General Insurance

The Certificate IV in General Insurance is designed for insurance professionals with up to one year of experience working in small or large insurance businesses with retail and/or commercial clients.

This qualification is made up of Skills Units which are mapped to the Australian Qualifications Framework and are appropriately contextualised for both the Australian and New Zealand markets, and are internationally portable.

The FNS41422 Certificate IV in General Insurance training package has superseded the FNS41420 Certificate IV in General Insurance training package.  For more information you can contact [email protected].

Each unit aims to develop specific technical, analytical and interpersonal knowledge and skills required to: 

  • effectively provide support in handling and investigating customer insurance claims
  • prepare and maintain relevant documentation
  • answer customer inquiries.

On completion, students will also have developed:

  • solid workplace relationship-building and communication skills
  • a good understanding of the general insurance industry and the General Insurance Code of Practice.

Insurance professionals can focus on specific areas they wish to develop by taking units as standalone short courses — or, if desired, units can be combined to attain the full Certificate IV in General Insurance.

Financial Services Training Package (FNS20) Update

As a result of the FNS20 training package update in 2020, ANZIIF was required to update its qualifications from 3 November 2021.

The 2022 Financial Services Training Package came into effect on 13 June 2023 for the FNS41422 Certificate IV in General Insurance. FNS41422 supersedes FNS41420 (which came into effect from 3 November 2021).

Students who commenced studies from April 2016 should refer to this document for your pathway.

New students commencing studies from 13 June 2023 do not need to reference the PDF and should follow the prescribed Course Structure below.

Course Structure

To be awarded the Certificate IV, students must complete THREE compulsory units plus:

  • SEVEN units - choose from Electives
    • Note, students should choose either UW20003-20 Issues of renewal business or UW20002-20 Understand the core processes of underwriting
  • TWO units - choose from Other
