Each year the Liability Conference offers unprecedented knowledge and access to leaders in the insurance profession. Now in its fifth year, the popular Liability Conference is well established following sell-out events year after year.

This flagship event provides the ideal forum for all insurance professionals to discuss the issues that are relevant now and in the future. This year’s event comprises of topical, relevant and thought-provoking presentations, including discussions on, Litigation Funding, Product Recall, Emerging Risks, Trends in Psychological Injuries, Infrastructure and more. 



By the end of the conference, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify the key liability risks that exist in infrastructure projects and illustrate how the market is addressing these.  
  • Apply effective management for a contamination or recall claim.
  • Evaluate current and emerging risks in Liability Insurance.
  • Recognise the interface between funders and insurers and define the future direction of funding in the market Globally.
  • Differentiate between general liability and professional indemnity policies and demonstrate how to effectively manage a intersect of both claims.  
  • Recognise psychological injuries and the application of current case law.

    Neil is an internationally recognised commentator on terrorism, infrastructure security, risk and crisis management. He has had over 80 professional articles published and is a co-author of the Standards Australia handbook Security Risk Management.

Having been ‘deployed’ by the BBC to report on European Affairs in the mid 90’s, and more recently by the Australian Defence Force in Iraq, Sharon has an extensive background to challenge your thinking about Taking Risk in the ever evolving modern world.

    Angus is currently the Vice President, Casualty, Workers Compensation & Crisis Management Claims – Asia Pacific for Liberty Specialty Markets, the commercial and reinsurance arm of Liberty Mutual. Angus has over 25 years of commercial and insurance experience including 18 years leading a casualty claims management, adjusting and investigation business. He has managed claims and litigation across a wide variety of industries including construction, industrial, manufacturing, agriculture, retail, energy and mining sectors for insurers, corporate and government entities. Prior to joining Liberty, Angus was General Manager of a large Australian loss adjusting business overseeing all professional claims staff across multi lines. His qualifications include Bachelor of Business, Executive Certificate in Insurance, ANZIIF (Fellow), CIP, FAIM. Angus was until recently the National President of the Australian Insurance Law Association (AILA) and remains on the Board.

    Angus is passionate about the insurance industry and how it provides protection for individuals and business to prosper. Having worked across various facets of business, he brings a unique capability to apply diverse insights to drive optimum outcomes.

    Nick is an insurance specialist with 30 years experience. At General Reinsurance, Nick is the Practice Leader for Casualty Treaty business in the Asia Pacific region. He holds both casualty and property treaty underwriting authority.

    Nick gained his initial experience in the Commercial Union and Switzerland Insurance companies. He was subsequently appointed company director of Harbour Pacific, an Australian MGA subsidiary of Aon USA. He was then appointed company director of Jardine Underwriting Agency, an Australian subsidiary of Jardine UK, before accepting the position at General Reinsurance. His executive roles have included marketing, underwriting and claims management.

    Nick has spoken regularly at seminars in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, and occasionally in Europe. He has also previously held the post of Specialist Lecturer at the University of Technology, Sydney, lecturing the Liability subject within the post-graduate course “Executive Certificate in Insurance”.

Karina is tertiary qualified, holding a Bachelor of law and postgraduate qualifications in Financial law and Insurance, together with a Post Graduate diploma in Business Management.

    Prior to moving to London, Chirag was based in Willis Re’s New York office. Promoted to his current position in 2018, he joined Willis Re’s New York office in 2006 as an analyst in the Graduate Training Program.

    Nick Sordon has been an insurance professional for 24 years and is currently the Head of Casualty Underwriting - ANZ, with Swiss Reinsurance.

    Prior to joining Swiss Re, Nick worked for a number of direct insurance companies, mainly in a liability underwriting capacity however also spent some years as a senior liability risk surveyor.

    In 2005, Nick joined Swiss Re as a Snr Fac Underwriter, transitioning to the Casualty Treaty Team in 2010. In 2017, Nick attained the status of Underwriting Expert, the highest level of Casualty Authority within Swiss Re. Also in that year, he was promoted to Head of Casualty Underwriting.

    Nick has been a market presenter and writer on a range of casualty topics. He is a passionate about emerging risks and values opportunities to be a discussion partner with clients on new and developing exposures.

    Angela has worked with various parts of the Government at both a State and Federal level and also with a variety of project consortiums, contractors, subcontractors, financiers and developers across many of Australia’s largest infrastructure projects.

    Angela joined Gallagher 3 years ago to enhance the construction expertise within the business helping clients to navigate complex risk and insurance challenges. Prior to joining Gallagher Angela spent 16 years with Aon and Marsh in similar roles.

    After developing a broad frame of reference across disciplines including accounting, economics and law, John practised as a commercial litigator in Sydney for 10 years and then, over 20 years ago, led the development of litigation funding through funding claims in the USA, UK, Germany, Netherlands, Australia, Singapore, New Zealand and South Africa.

    John’s leadership in the emerging global litigation funding market has focused on shareholder claims which notably includes the Volkswagen shareholder claim in Germany; a claim funded by Innsworth on whose board John sits.

    In 2013, John was recognised by The American Lawyer Magazine as being in “The Top 50 Innovators in Big Law in the Last 50 Years” for “pioneering the model for investing in lawsuits that’s starting to take hold in the United States and the United Kingdom.”

    John is the Chairman of the Association of Litigation Funders of Australia.

    In 2016 Stacey was appointed to GB’s Senior Executive Team, in the role of Executive Director – Sales and Account Management, now known as the Chief Client Officer.

    Stacey has managed major start-ups in Victoria, NSW, SA and the NT, as well as leading the transformation of GB’s self insurance division. She now forms relationships and develops solutions for large government and corporate clients.

    This year alone, Stacey has been awarded the Business Development Professional of the Year at the 2019 Women In Finance Awards and has been named on the list of 2019 Women to Watch by Business Insurance
