    Kane Bennett is Chubb’s Head of Environmental Risk – APAC and Far East. In this role, Mr. Bennett drives the business development and profitability of the Environmental Liability portfolio throughout the Asia Pacific region, including Japan.

    Mr. Bennett has 20+ years of experience in industrial, consulting and technical environmental management roles covering contaminated site investigation and monitoring; environmental auditing; environmental risk assessment; environmental management system implementation and certification to ISO14001; compliance reporting and regulatory authority liaison; earthmoving and contracting management; cleaner production and hydrocarbon and waste management; energy efficiency opportunities; soil, water and gas sampling; monitoring and analysis. Prior to joining Chubb, he was an Environmental Risk Manager with a well-known petroleum company.  

    Mr. Bennett has two Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Western Australia – one majoring in Environmental Geo-science and the other in Land and Water management. He has a very strong background in Environmental and Pollution risks and is a qualified Environmental Auditor.

    Matthew is a leading insurance lawyer who has for almost 25 years advised Australian and English insurers in the General Insurance sector and is the lead partner of the firm’s General Insurance team.

    Matthew’s current practice includes professional indemnity – coverage in claims in both financial lines, building, construction and mining, large property related public and product liability claims, Industrial Special Risks (ISR), coverage counsel and risk management advice for professionals and manufacturers particularly in the utilisation of contractual terms and conditions to manage risk and insurance, professional indemnity, D&O and EPL claims, as well as first party property claims and associated recoveries.

    Matthew has a significant profile in the insurance sector and is called upon by industry publishers to provide market commentary and by Government to comment on proposed insurance reforms. Matthew is also regularly called upon to present at various industry conferences and events.

    Sarah Fountain is a Senior Associate in the Litigation & Regulatory team at global law firm, DLA Piper.  She has significant experience across all areas of insurance law, with a particular focus on professional indemnity claims and professional conduct enquiries.  Sarah regularly provides advice to insurers on policy coverage.  Sarah also acts for clients in relation to cyber incidents and data breaches, including advising clients in relation to their notification obligations in the case of a data breach.

    Rebecca Gilsenan is a principal in Maurice Blackburn's class actions department in Sydney.  She has extensive experience in running complex and novel litigation, including numerous class actions in the areas of price fixing, securities, failed investment schemes, product liability and catastrophes. Best Lawyers lists Rebecca as one of the top class actions lawyers in Australia. 

    Rebecca is currently acting for the plaintiff in the Queensland Floods class action. 

    Rebecca is a member of the board of Maurice Blackburn, she is the deputy chair of the Public Interest Advocacy Centre and the chair of the UNSW Law Advisory Council.

    Wayne has over 40 years’ experience in the insurance industry in both public and private sectors.

    His early career was in CTP. He worked in the statutory classes with TAC where he held a number of senior claims roles.  Following this, Wayne was COO at Ansvar Insurance. Throughout his career, Wayne has been involved  in claims, reinsurance, underwriting and operational management. More recently Wayne has held senior claims roles with the VMIA and is currently in the role of Head of Insurance. Wayne is an ANZIIF (Fellow) CIP.

    Robin was appointed Country Head, Australia for AXA XL in July 2015, and since then has steered the business through the successful integration of XL and Catlin, entry into the SME market with the acquisition of Brooklyn Underwriting, and expansion into new geographies and product lines. 

    Robin previously held the position of Country Head, Singapore and Labuan, and joined XL Catlin after ten years at AIG, where he was latterly Head of Broker and Client Management for Asia. 

    Robin has a background in Financial Lines underwriting, and has held senior underwriting, distribution and management positions during his time living and working in London, Paris, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Sydney.

    Robin holds an MBA from INSEAD, Paris, and a BA Hons from University of Southampton. In 2006 he picked up the prestigious Underwriter of the Year award at the British Insurance Awards for an innovative D&O product.

    Prior to joining the insurance industry, Robin worked in technology, consulting to the financial services industry.

    Johanna is a Senior Associate in Carter Newell's Energy & Resources and Commercial Property teams, specialising in environment and planning law.

    She provides environment law services for the entire life cycle of resources, construction, extractive industries and other industrial projects.  This encompasses project approvals, compliance administration and incident management including defending prosecution and civil proceedings in the Magistrates Court, Land Court or Planning and Environment Court.  

    She has specific experience acting for major insurers defending various types of environmental claims and proceedings under environmental impairment, statutory fines and D&O policies.

    Johanna has significant in-house experience gained through multiple secondments.  Most recently, she was seconded to a major oil and gas explorer producer as the Land and Environment Counsel.

    Johanna is an active member of the Queensland Environmental Law Association and has completed her Master of Laws, specialising in Natural Resources and Environment Law.

    David has worked in the London and Australian market for over 30 years. His work has predominantly been in the liability, professional indemnity and medical malpractice space along with other lines of business. 

    David had managed many of Australia’s largest liability claims including the Black Saturday bushfire class action in Victoria, Australia’s largest liability class action settlement. 

    He worked for Lloyd’s Syndicate 386 for 24 years as Claims Director - Australasia prior to joining HDI Global as Regional Claims Manager for Australia and ASEAN in 2017.

    Nick is an insurance specialist with 30 years experience. At General Reinsurance, Nick is the Practice Leader for Casualty Treaty business in the Asia Pacific region. He holds both casualty and property treaty underwriting authority.

    Nick gained his initial experience in the Commercial Union and Switzerland Insurance companies. He was subsequently appointed company director of Harbour Pacific, an Australian MGA subsidiary of Aon USA. He was then appointed company director of Jardine Underwriting Agency, an Australian subsidiary of Jardine UK, before accepting the position at General Reinsurance. His executive roles have included marketing, underwriting and claims management.

    Nick has spoken regularly at seminars in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, and occasionally in Europe. He has also previously held the post of Specialist Lecturer at the University of Technology, Sydney, lecturing the Liability subject within the post-graduate course “Executive Certificate in Insurance”.

    Estelle is an Actuary who has worked in the general insurance industry for 30 years. During 2002 she was the actuarial expert to the HIH Royal Commission and helped a number of insurers implement the changes to capital and governance introduced by APRA subsequent to that Royal Commission.

    Since then she has acted as an Appointed Actuary to a number of insurance companies and over the years has helped them and their Boards navigate the ever increasing levels of regulation.

    Estelle has also worked as a temporary Chief Risk Officer and is on the Board of the National Disability Insurance Agency giving her a different perspective on risk and compliance.

    Mark Ronan joined Aon in 2003 and he currently holds the title of Chief Claims Officer. Mark’s role is to provide guidance and support to a myriad of clients many of whom are Educational Institutions and Not for Profits.  Mark has been involved in many complex disputes involving historical child sexual abuse and he has taken a keen interest in the outcomes of the Royal Commission.
    Mark in recent times has been engaged by insurers and clients alike regarding the Federal Redress Scheme and what issues both entities need to consider.  Now that the Redress Scheme has commenced, Mark is keeping a close eye on any emerging developments.
