    Tani Alexander is the Casualty Treaty Manager – ANZ of Berkley Re Australia.  She is responsible for the strategy, portfolio management and lead underwriting of the ANZ Casualty treaty portfolio for Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

    Tani moved to her current role with Berkley Re in April 2016 after working for Swiss Re in Sydney for seven years as a Senior Casualty Treaty Underwriter. Prior to this, she worked for Munich Re America in Princeton, NJ and Munich Re in Sydney where she started her career as a graduate. 

    Her experience is focused on ANZ Casualty treaty underwriting, working with local and global insurers on structuring and pricing their casualty treaties. Tani has experience in underwriting prospective and retrospective structured solutions, product development, innovation and casualty accumulation products. Tani holds a Bachelor of Business from UTS, Sydney.

    Since completing his postgraduate studies at Monash University, Trevor has worked as an earthquake seismologist in Australia, Canada and the United States. He is currently the Chair of the Seismicity Task Group on the Canadian Standing Committee on Earthquake Design, a member of Standards Australia earthquake loading subcommittee, and leads Geoscience Australia’s National Seismic Hazard Assessment Activity. Trevor has a particular interest in ground-motion modelling in stable continental environments, improving methods for calculating the magnitudes of Australian earthquakes, and in estimating earthquake impacts in near real time.

    Peter Deans was appointed Chief Risk Officer at BOQ in March 2012.  Peter has driven fundamental change in the Bank’s risk management frameworks, processes and culture.  As part of the Executive team, he has also played a key role in reshaping both the business and risk management strategies at BOQ.  Peter was awarded Australian Banking & Finance Chief Risk Officer of the Year in 2014 and 2015, 2016 and again in 2018.

    Peter has over 30 years of experience across retail, business and institutional banking.  Peter held senior risk management roles with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia’s commercial and institutional banking businesses between 1999 and 2010.  In 2008, following the acquisition of Bankwest by CBA, Peter was appointed CRO of Bankwest.

Prior to joining Allianz, Andrew worked in a number of other general insurance roles including reinsurance underwriting and client management with Hannover Re, portfolio management with Suncorp and consulting with EY and Deloitte. 

    Andrew is a strong believer that people are the key asset to any financial services organisation and that out performance stems from helping people to achieve their best. Andrew is passionate about the role that (re)insurance has to play for our ever-changing future, particularly as job functions adapt and the skillsets and cultural change that will be required to get there.

    Gary Dransfield was appointed Chief Executive Officer Insurance in October 2017. He joined Suncorp in August 2009 and held the position of Executive General Manager for Personal Insurance Retail Distribution, before being appointed the Chief Executive Officer Vero New Zealand in April 2011, Chief Executive Officer Personal Insurance in October 2015 and Chief Executive Office Customer Platforms in March 2016.

    Prior to joining Suncorp, Gary worked for 25 years in the retail financial services industry holding positions in operations, strategy and marketing at companies such as St George Bank, AMP and IAG.

    Gary has had a number of highlights during his career. He played a key role in the successful conversion of St George from a building society to a bank; he led the IT team at IAG during the demutualization of NRMA; and he built an engaged and high performing retail organisation within NRMA, SGIO and SGIC.

    Michael Eberhardt is the local CEO of the Hannover Re Australian Branch and responsible for the strategic development and overall management of the property and casualty business in the ANZ region. He has been living in Australia for close to six years and successfully managed the transition from Hannover Re’s  centrally based underwriting model to the establishment of a fully fletched operation based in Sydney which includes the insourcing of the previously outsourced departments of accounting, finance, claims and investment. 

    Prior to Australia, Michael worked for more than six years in the Advanced Solutions department in Hannover – a specialized unit dedicated to developing tailor made, multi-year and structured reinsurance solutions. He studied in Bayreuth (Germany) and Barcelona (Spain) and holds a master degree in business administration with specialization in finance, banking and international management. He speaks German, English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and understands Catalan.

    Jim Fiore has over 33 years of industry experience. In his current role as President of Blue Ocean & Equator Re, he oversees the day to day operations of QBE’s reinsurance captive.  QBE’s reinsurance captive is one of the largest in the world with more than $3 billion of reinsurance premiums written annually.  In addition, he continues to work as the Group Chief Reinsurance Officer, which he was promoted to in 2012.  In this capacity, he is responsible for QBE’s global ceded reinsurance strategy and purchasing, as well as the management and oversight of the company’s exposures and accumulations. Jim began his career with QBE in 1992.  During that time, he has held various management and Board positions within QBE.  He is also active within various industry associations.

    Dr Will Gardner is the founder and Managing Director of COMBUS Pty Limited, an actuarial consulting firm specialising in helping insurance companies quantify and manage their large scale risk to natural and man-made disasters. Will has been building and using catastrophe models since 1994, having developed more than a dozen different international catastrophe models and undertaken the catastrophe analysis of over 200 insurance and reinsurance company portfolios. Will is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia and has a PhD in Geophysics.

Robert has more than 45 years’ experience in the insurance industry and is recognised as a leader in the insurance industry in Australia and internationally. He was the Insurance Industry Leader of the Year at the 2011 Annual Australian Insurance Industry Awards. In 2014, Robert was named the second Most Influential Person in the Insurance Industry in by Insurance News magazine as well as awarded the prestigious ACORD Rainmaker Award. He was a finalist in CEO Magazine’s 2015 CEO of the Year Awards and a national finalist for the Eastern Region in the 2016 EY Entrepreneur of the Year program. In 2016 Robert also won the prestigious Lex McKeown Trophy by NIBA.

    Ian retired (“redefined”) in 2017 and is now Managing Director of Ian Krimmer Media Services Pty Ltd. For 41 years he was a career firefighter with FRNSW attending countless disasters locally, interstate and internationally. He is also a communications and media expert who in 1997 founded the FRNSW Media Unit. For the past 20 years Ian has been the spokesperson for FRNSW and media trainer and mentor to thousands of NSW firefighters.

    Ian is a Churchill Fellow and is currently President of the NSW Churchill Fellows Association. He continues as a volunteer firefighter with the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) and is a member of Team Rubicon, a volunteer disaster response organisation. This year he completed a Graduate Certificate in Humanitarian Leadership in preparation for work with the United Nations.

    Beginning on the Australian Swimming Team at just 13, Nicole Livingstone will go down in history as one of Australia’s most successful female backstrokers.

    With an international sporting career spanning 12 years, Nicole’s achievements include three medals from three Olympic appearances; 6 gold, 2 silver and a bronze from three Commonwealth Games and competing in six Pan Pacific Championships, winning 4 gold 2 silver and 1 bronze medals. She also broke a world record in the 200m backstroke (short course) in 1992.

    Nicole placed her name in the record books with the longest winning sequence of any Australian swimmer in history at the national titles winning ten consecutive 100m backstroke titles between 1987 and 1996, a record still unbroken today.

    Upon retiring from swimming, Nicole began a long career in media in a variety of roles – from sports commentary at events like the Olympics and Commonwealth Games to hosting big name shows - ‘Wide World of Sports’, ‘Any Given Sunday’ and ‘The Project’.

    A great ambassador for Australian sport, Nicole has received many awards during her career outside of the pool. These include the Medal of the Order of Australia, the Australian Sports Medal and she is also a member of the Victorian Women’s Honour Roll.

    In 2016, Nicole was historically voted into ‘The Carbine Club’ as one of two first ever females to be admitted and was announced by the Victorian Government as Chair of the Victorian Institute of Sport.

    In 2017 Nicole was one of the first two women to be welcomed into The Carbine Club, breaking the club's 55 year old tradition of being men only.

    Nicole juggles many commitments, as a mother of three, an expert sports commentator and host, as a board member of Swimming Australia, the Australian Olympic Committee and Deputy Chair of VicHealth and as CEO of AFL's Women's Football.

    Nicole along with her sister Karen Livingstone founded Ovarian Cancer Australia, after their mother passed away from the disease.

    She is now the Patron of the organisation.

    Established in 2002, Quantium now has over 700 staff, including more than 100 in our overseas offices, and works with many of the world’s leading brands to power new business possibilities via data, analytics and technology.  Key clients and partners include leading brands such as Woolworths, Walmart, ANZ, NAB, Foxtel, Suncorp, Google and Qantas.

    An actuary with over 25 years of experience, Karl is also the Appointed Actuary of half a dozen insurers in Australia and New Zealand. As well as advising on the more traditional actuarial areas, including reinsurance, Karl, and Quantium more widely, helps clients to develop their data and analytics strategies in an increasingly dynamic environment.

    Estelle is an Actuary who has worked in the general insurance industry for 30 years. During 2002 she was the actuarial expert to the HIH Royal Commission and helped a number of insurers implement the changes to capital and governance introduced by APRA subsequent to that Royal Commission.

    Since then she has acted as an Appointed Actuary to a number of insurance companies and over the years has helped them and their Boards navigate the ever increasing levels of regulation.

    Estelle has also worked as a temporary Chief Risk Officer and is on the Board of the National Disability Insurance Agency giving her a different perspective on risk and compliance.

    Dr Paul Somerville was born in Armidale, NSW Australia and received his B.Sc. degree in Geophysics from the University of New England.  He received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Geophysics at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.  He spent two years as a Visiting Research Fellow at the Earthquake Research Institute, University of Tokyo.  He is Chief Geoscientist at Risk Frontiers in Sydney, Australia, where he builds earthquake loss models for Australia and New Zealand. He is also Principal Seismologist at AECOM in Los Angeles, USA. He has experienced numerous damaging earthquakes first hand, including the 1989 Loma Prieta and 1994 Northridge earthquakes in California and the 1995 Kobe, Japan earthquake, and was involved in post-earthquake reconnaissance of these earthquakes as well as other earthquakes in California, Japan, New Zealand and Taiwan.  He is Past President of the Australian Earthquake Engineering Society, and participated in the revision of the ANCOLD Seismic Guidelines.

    Tim's career has been spent mostly in large-scale listed media and Internet companies. He has served as CEO of Time Warner’s publishing operation in Australia and New Zealand, and was Commercial Director of PBL Media at the time of private equity buyout. Tim has held CEO roles and board positions in Australian Internet ventures and in other private and listed companies.

    In May 2014, Tim was invited to serve on the NRMA board in December 2017, in December 2017 Tim was appointed Chairman of the NRMA. Tim holds an MBA with distinction in Strategic Management and a major in Entrepreneurism.

    After starting his insurance career with CHU/QBE in Perth in 2001, Wes relocated to Sydney in 2005 with QBE after roles in underwriting and claims. He transitioned to a Reinsurance role in 2005 with Suncorp (then Promina) managing the Reinsurance claims for the group.

    Between 2007 and 2011 Wes held roles in Reinsurance claims at Willis Re, and assistant underwriting with CBD Underwriting. In 2011 he joined Aon Benfield in a Client Services role, before moving into the broking team in 2013.

    In 2014, Wes was seconded to Aon Benfield’s APAC reinsurance broking team in London for 2yrs, where he was involved in regional business from AU/NZ, China, India and Asia. During this time he placed international Property, Casualty, A&H and Retrocession business into the London and European markets.

    Since returning to Australia in 2016, Wes has been a client manager and treaty broker with Aon for Australian P&C clients.

    Scott entered the insurance industry in 1977 straight after leaving school. Scott spent 4 years in the direct market with City Mutual and Sphere Drake. Moving to Munich Re in 1980 Scott worked across Marine and Casualty. In 1986, Scott joined Alexander Howden (Australia) and spend 2 years working in the London market. On returning to Australia, Scott started Nac Re in Australia which became XL Re and then moved to Singapore to run the region for XL Re. Scott then joined Allianz Re, Singapore, as the Regional Chief Executive Officer in 2008 until 2011.  From 2012 to 2013, Scott worked at Guy Carpenter before starting “Ryrie Consulting”. Scott joined A.M. Best as Commercial Director, Asia-Pacific in 2016 and moved back to Sydney in 2017 as CEO of RMIA.

    Pierre Wiart is the Managing Director of RMS Sydney, the newest office that he opened in September 2017.  Pierre has been involved with Catastrophe Modelling since he joined RMS London for a couple of years. just after graduating from the University of Cambridge (UK) with PhD in Physical Geography / Volcanology in 2000.

    Thereafter, Pierre has been working at all levels of property risk transfer notably as a Portfolio Manager for a Bermudian Reinsurer, as an underwriter, structurer, or Cat Manager for a broker. Beyond Catastrophe Modelling, Pierre has been involved in Portfolio Construction and Portfolio Management with implication on Capital Management. Pierre spend 5 years in Bermuda with White Mountains Re and two years at the ILS Fund ‘Atropos’ from SCOR Investment Partners in Paris. Pierre has also advised Private and Sovereign Funds on Insurance Linked Securities in the region.

    Ralph was appointed Managing Director of Munich Holdings of Australasia Pty Limited on 1 July 2016. He is responsible for all non-life reinsurance operations of the Group in Australasia.

    Ralph, who has worked with Munich Re since 1987, held various management roles including Casualty Underwriting, Customised Portfolio Solutions and Risk Management. In his previous position he headed an international department which is responsible for the planning and performance monitoring for the group’s reinsurance business in Europe, Latin America, Africa, Asia and Australasia.

    Simon Cloney has 30 years of experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry. Since 2002, he has worked at the convergence of capital markets and reinsurance.

    Simon joined Beach & Associates, London in 2005 and post Hurricane Katrina he led a team that put in place some of the first collateralised quota shares. Returning to Sydney in 2007, Simon was responsible for the creation of fully collateralised whole account stop loss protection that delivered earnings protection to a global client.

    Simon was appointed Managing Director of Beach & Associates Australia in 2010, and in 2014 initiated a management buyout, followed by a joint venture with Steadfast leading to the formation of Steadfast Re.

    On completing a Diploma degree in Mathematics, Ines started her career in Munich over 13 years ago as a graduate with Munich Re in the Property Treaty Underwriting team dealing with the London market.

    Leaving Germany two years later, she took up an actuarial role with Munich Re’s Sydney office, providing pricing support for the Property Treaty Underwriters.

    Since 2010 Ines has been responsible for the Property and Engineering Treaty Portfolio for the Asia Pacific region. In 2017 her responsibility was extended to include also the facultative Property and Engineering book of business.

    Ines has lived in Australia for 12 years and obtained her Australian citizenship this year.

    Stephen has over 20 years’ experience in the reinsurance industry in Asia Pacific. Starting his career as an underwriter with General Re, he then moved to reinsurance broking, initially structuring and placing large Property Catastrophe programs for insurers in Australia and New Zealand. In 2008 Stephen relocated to Singapore to focus on Property Catastrophe retrocession programs for Asian based reinsurers and Lloyd’s Syndicates in Asia. Stephen joined JLT Re at the beginning of 2017 as Deputy CEO, Asia Pacific, and CEO Australia, New Zealand and Pacific islands.
