2018 Rising Stars in Insurance — NSW

Building on the success of the Rising Stars in Insurance seminar series held in 2017, ANZIIF is pleased to announce that Rising Stars in Insurance will be held again in 2018.

This interactive seminar will be facilitated by Margot Andersen, owner and director of talentinsight Australia and Insync Network Group. Joining Margot is a panel composed of senior industry experts and inspiring young professionals, who will share their own career and leadership insights around what they believe are the behaviours, attitudes and work patterns that characterise career resilience and how they have fostered it in their own careers.

    Emma Doney commenced her career in the insurance industry as an Office Administration Manager at Technical Assessing in 2009. After completing a Bachelor of Laws that same year, Emma progressed to full time loss adjusting soon thereafter.

    In the five years Emma was employed with Technical Assessing, she completed a Diploma of Financial Services (Loss Adjusting), and a Certificate IV in Building, while gaining significant experience in various adjusting sectors, including liability, construction and professional indemnity. 

    In 2015, Emma joined YDR Chartered Loss Adjusters as their Queensland Manager, where she has firmly placed the YDR brand in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. In 2016, Emma was awarded ANZIIF 2016 Young Insurance Professional of the Year, and in 2017 Emma was made Partner within YDR.

    Emma is the President of the Queensland Claims Discussion Group, and the Vice President of the Women in Insurance Queensland Chapter, having recently stepped down from her position as Division Councilor for the Australasian Institute of Chartered Loss Adjusters.. Emma regularly speaks at industry functions and seminars, and is known for the ‘off beat’ sense of humour which she manages to bring to even the driest of topics.

    Gemma Gould is a Broker with MGA Insurance Brokers, managing a portfolio under an AR agreement for the past 16 years.  

    In 2014 Gemma self published the book, BreakThru Brokin: Unleash the Broker within, a resource for Brokers providing basic industry insight and helpful tips on areas such as client communication, lead conversion and sales pointers.  

    Following on from the success of BreakThru Brokin and her passion for online media, in 2016 Gemma launched BreakThruin2.com, promoting the importance of a social engagement for AR’s/Brokers and how to utilise social as a value proposition.

    Keen to establish an online community for AR’s and Brokers to share their story, Gemma created the BreakThruIn2 interview series on YouTube in 2017. Channel content includes career interviews with AR’s in addition to Industry Vlogs, the first being the 2017 NIBA Convention.   

    Gemma is a Fellow of NIBA, holds Qualified Practising Insurance Broker and Certified Practising Insurance Broker Membership with NIBA, is an active Member of the NIBA NSW Young Professionals Committee and holds an Advanced Diploma of Financial Services (Insurance Broking).

    Kimberley Jonsson is the QLD/NT Manager of Australia’s Largest Strata Insurer – CHU Underwriting Agencies after having worked for CHU across both South Australia and Queensland for 13 years. Kim holds an MBA from AIM Business School, is a Fellow of the Australia New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance and mother of a 2 year old girl. In 2016 Kimberley was named in Insurance Business Young Guns listing and in 2017 won the prestigious title of Young Insurance Professional of the Year at the Australian Insurance Industry Awards.

    Scott Leney was appointed to the role of Chief Executive Officer of Marsh Pacific in January 2016.  Scott leads the Marsh businesses in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Fiji.  During his long career at Marsh he has served in various leadership roles in Core Brokerage, Placement, Specialty and Sales. Scott recently led the implementation of a client-centric business model and restructured the business in Australia around client segment value propositions with national Specialty practices and Industry strategies as key differentiators.  

    Scott holds a Bachelor of Commerce, is a Qualified Practising Insurance Broker (NIBA) and is a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF).

    Tim is an insurance industry executive with more than 25 years’ experience across insurance, reinsurance and financial services. 

    He is currently Group Executive, Self Insurance, Community and Innovation at icare (Insurance and Care NSW) and has significant experience as a CEO, Senior Executive and Director, with a particular focus in innovation, transformation and change for the betterment of customers. Previous roles have included CEO of QBE Australia and New Zealand; Managing Director of Elders Financial Services Group and Managing Director of Elders Insurance.

    Earlier in his career, Tim held senior positions with Swiss Re, Sydney Re, QBE Re (London), QBE Australia and Australian Eagle Insurance. Tim has completed the Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program, is a Graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, has a Master of Business Administration and Graduate Diploma in Agricultural Economics from the University of New England and Bachelor of Agricultural Science from LaTrobe University.

    Rebecca began her career in insurance with APRA as a graduate and later as a senior analyst in the supervision and risk divisions. She is currently a reinsurance underwriter in the Casualty Treaty team at Munich Re Australia. Prior to Munich Re, she was with Guy Carpenter as a broker for 5 years gaining valuable experience in Reinsurance Broking and Strategic Advisory, as well as international experience in New York and London. While at Guy Carpenter, she chaired the Young Professionals Group for Asia Pacific. She is the winner of the ANZIIF Peter Corrigan Scholarship for Leadership and Innovation in 2016 and completed a general management course at INSEAD in 2017. Rebecca holds an ANZIIF Fellow CIP and obtained her Bachelor of Laws and Master of Finance from UNSW. She is the Founder and former President of Women in Reinsurance (WIRE) Australia and a committee member of the Reinsurance Discussion Group (RDG).
