About the Awards

The New Zealand Insurance Industry Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of individuals and businesses across the New Zealand insurance industry. The Awards recognise excellence, innovation, and impact, while celebrating leadership, customer commitment, community contribution, and industry advancement.

Submissions are open across 13 categories, with the criteria reflecting a greater focus on the importance of the customer, ethical standards and vulnerability.

Categories acknowledge achievements across general insurance, life insurance, broking, claims, underwriting, insurtech, authorised representative networks, professional services, and service providers.

Individuals will be recognised across three prestigious categories that celebrate outstanding contributions, leadership, passion, and dedication to professionalism.

“The New Zealand Awards shine a spotlight on the passion, professionalism, and progress that define our industry. It’s about celebrating the people and organisations driving positive change for New Zealanders. I encourage everyone to put forward a submission and share your accomplishments. I can’t wait to celebrate the success of our sector winners with you on the night” — Katrina Shanks, CEO of ANZIIF.

Special Guest Speaker

We are thrilled to welcome back Oscar Kightly as our guest speaker for the evening.

Oscar is a critically acclaimed writer, actor, director, and television presenter, renowned for his sharp wit and cultural insight.

He is best known for his comedy work with The Naked Samoans, co-writer and star of the hit film Sione’s Wedding and his role in the critically acclaimed film Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

Oscar’s storytelling has helped shape New Zealand’s cultural landscape, and we are honoured to have him join us to celebrate the achievements of our industry.

Judging

The Awards are decided by an esteemed panel of industry judges who read and score each submission individually and vote under the supervision of an independent scrutineer.

All judges are bound by confidentiality agreements and must recuse themselves if a conflict of interest arises. Those with a conflict are not permitted to read or deliberate on the affected submission.

The judging panel is led by a presiding judge, with an external scrutineer present on Judging Day to ensure a fair and transparent process.

We understand that submissions may contain sensitive information and have robust systems in place to ensure confidentiality at every stage.

Introducing our MC for the Gala Event

Oscar Kightley is an award-winning writer, director, actor and TV presenter. Oscar is most well-known for his work on the hit series bro’Town, the highly successful film Sione’s Wedding, and being a member of the comedy group The Naked Samoans.

Oscar first recognised his ability to make people laugh when he was a school boy, and at Rutherford High he developed his skills in humour and English (but not maths!) further. Following a cadetship at The Auckland Star, Oscar moved into radio and television, starting behind the scenes and then moving into a presenting role with Life in The Fridge based in Christchurch.

By 2006 he was a Laureate Award winner and a Qantas award winning journalist. Oscar also co-founded Pacific Underground and the Island Players theatre company, which has produced critically acclaimed work. The same year, Oscar co-wrote and took a lead role in the highly successful movie Sione's Wedding which was released in New Zealand and Australia.

2012 saw the highly anticipated sequel to Sione's Wedding, Sione's 2, which he both co-wrote and starred in. In 2013, Oscar was seen on the small screen in Harry starring alongside Hollywood heavyweight, Sam Neill.

Oscar is one of the Naked Samoans, who've taken their anarchic brand of comedy around the country and even to Scotland. With the Naked Samoans and Firehorse Films, he completed the fifth series of bro’Town in 2009, which he co-wrote with David Fane, Mario Gaoa and Shimpal Lelisi and is well-known for his voice over character, Vale.

With his vast experience in the media and entertainment industry it seemed like a natural progression for Oscar to move into directing. Oscar launched his first short film Tom's Dairy as well as directing the sequel to the successful Super City 2 in 2013. That year he co-wrote and played the lead in the gritty drama Harry, which received rave reviews in New Zealand and in the United States.

Aside from his busy filming schedule, Oscar still finds time for charities and organisations close to his heart with various involvement with World Vision and Water Safety NZ.
