Australian bushfires will create costly problems for insurers

The bushfires ravaging Australia are likely to result in similar issues to those that emerged for insurers following the three Canterbury earthquakes in New Zealand, warns risk professional John Sloan. In New Zealand, claims cost a total of NZ$31 billion.  The Australian cost is currently estimated at $1.3 billion and rising.
