Webinar: JobKeeper Scheme: Current Impact and Outcomes

Prior to federal government intervention in Australia, COVID-19 and the ensuing shutdown has had a swift and dramatic impact on employment relations.

Employers faced uncertainty about their ability to make necessary workplace changes, such as the right to stand down employees due to a significant downturn in business. At the same time, many employees were staring down the barrel of abrupt and unexpected unemployment.

The recently introduced JobKeeper Scheme is designed to provide some degree of certainty for both sides of the job market, while also providing much needed economic stimulus to mitigate the inevitable significant downturn in business.

Two months since the scheme was announced, many questions remain up in the air.

  • Did the JobKeeper Scheme have the intended effect on the jobs market and economy?
  • What are the new risks and ongoing implications for employment practices liability insurance (EPL)?

In this webinar, attendees will hear from legal and insurance experts Chris Mossman and Rebecca Pezzutti as they provide a snapshot of the JobKeeper Scheme and discuss new risks for employers and their insurers. Chris and Rebecca will provide a brief review of the early experience in the Fair Work Commission JobKeeper jurisdiction and key decisions so far.

At the end of this webinar, attendees will be able to:

  • Explain how the JobKeeper Scheme is intended to work
  • Describe how the JobKeeper Scheme has already impacted the EPL claims experience
  • Discuss tips for brokers and insured’s to get in front of EPL risks at an early stage
