Rising Stars In Insurance - NSW

Following on from the success of previous Rising Stars in Insurance Seminars, ANZIIF is pleased to announce its return in 2019!

This interactive seminar will be guided by some of the industry’s leading insurance professionals, who will share their experiences and mentor participants on how to build a successful career and become an industry leader. In addition, participants will gain industry knowledge and practical skills which they can use in the workplace, to help develop and grow their careers.

At the end of the workshop, attendees will be able to:

  • Employ strategies to enhance confidence into their job role 
  • Identify effective presentation techniques to utilise in the workplace 
  • Identify the importance of professional development to achieve personal growth 
  • Apply key leadership skills to enhance and develop their career

    In his role as Chief Executive Officer of Sedgwick Australia, Diego oversees insurance, loss adjusting, forensic accounting, TPA and building restoration services across Australia.  Diego joined Sedgwick, formerly Cunningham Lindsey, in January 2017 as the Chief Operations Officer.

    Prior to Sedgwick, he was the Head of Insurance and Advisory Services in Australia for Xchanging. In this role, Diego oversaw all Business Processing activities for Xchanging in NSW, Victoria and South Australia, as well as overall management of the Victorian and NSW business operations. Diego worked for Xchanging between 2009 to 2016 after his role as Director of the Insurance Advisory Services practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers where he consulted broadly to the insurance sector in Australia and Asia Pacific region. 

    Diego has had extensive experience in the auditing & change management of claims practices for both government and general insurers and was seconded to the HIH Royal Commission between 2001 – 2002 to investigate the claims management practices of HIH and FAI. 

    Diego is a qualified Solicitor. He has a Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Law and a MBA. He is also an Associate of the Insurance Institute of SA and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

    Rachael is an experienced litigation lawyer. She primarily advises insurers and corporates in the defence of public and product liability claims, both personal injury and property damage, professional indemnity claims and on policy response. Rachael advises a range of industry groups including hospitality, leisure, sport, retail, cleaning, security, commercial and residential property management, property owners, day care centres, churches, schools, allied health, and construction.

    Rachael is a former Board Director of Women Sport Australia, is a member of the Bondi Running and Triathlon Club, a member of Women in Insurance, AILA and the Women Lawyers Association of NSW. She is a recommended leading public liability lawyer in NSW in Doyles’ Guide to the Australian Legal Profession and has been referenced for public and product liability claims in The Legal 500 Asia Pacific.

    Simone is the Chief Operating Officer for Munich Re in Australasia, where she is the strategic representative and owner of business supply topics including HR, IT, facilities and projects for Australia and New Zealand. Her focus is on delivering the operational platform and capabilities that will support the Life and Non-Life business units in delivering innovation opportunities and client solutions. Simone also has management responsibility for the GLA business run-off and the local reporting line for Corporate Insurance Partners (CIP).

    An experienced Executive Leader, specialising in the General Insurance Industry, Simone has over 20 years’ experience in insurance and eight years management consulting experience in both Australia and UK, delivering a variety of strategy and business consulting engagements. Simone has experience across a broad range of roles including Claims, Information Technology, Acquisitions, People & Culture, Strategy and Business Transformation. Simone is a Senior Associate at ANZIIF, a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. She holds a Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Laws from University of Sydney and an MBA from AGSM (University of New South Wales). Simone was also the winner of the ANZIIF Peter Corrigan International Scholarship in 2012 and was a member of the ANZIIF Women’s Council from 2013 to 2017.

    Mohinder has been working in the general insurance industry for over 40 years. His prior employers include Allianz Insurance, Zurich Australian Insurance and National Insurance.

    In addition to his claims management role at Suncorp, Mohinder is Head of Suncorp’s Faculty of Commercial Claims Management responsible for technical training and product knowledge.  He is also the current Chair of the ICA’s National Civil Liability Committee.  Mohinder is one of the founding members of the Insurance Council’s Cross Liability Protocol for insurers, claims management organisations and insurance brokers.

    Mohinder has contributed articles for the Insurance Institute Journal on a range of topics including claims-risk management and legal developments relating to policy interpretation and the Insurance Contracts Act 1984. His professional qualifications include Bachelor of Laws, Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice, Fellowship member of ANZIIF and Fellowship member of Insurance Institute of India. 

    In 1993, he was admitted as a Solicitor by the Supreme Court of New South Wales.

    Damien's career at AIA Australia began in April 2007. He has held various roles, including Head of Group Insurance, Chief Distribution and Marketing Officer and General Manager - Life Insurance. He was appointed to the role of Chief Executive Officer in August, 2014. 

    Damien has more than 20 years’ experience in the Australian financial services industry, with management experience spanning operations, claims and underwriting, superannuation, investments, distribution, product, pricing and marketing. AIA New Zealand was added to Damien’s responsibilities in July 2016, and in July 2017 AIA and its partners launched myOwn health, a new health insurance business. 

    Damien is a director of the Financial Services Council (FSC), co-Chair of the FSC Life Board Committee and an Advisory Board member of the Shared Value Project.
