Following on from a sold-out event in 2016, the 2017 Life Insurance Breakfast will draw the Australian life insurance community to Sydney for what promises to be a thought-provoking highlight of the industry calendar.

Featuring influential speakers discussing the topics that matter most in the life sector, this event attracts an audience of respected business and thought leaders.


Paradigm shift in underwriting, global changes — with medical advancements in treatment and early diagnostics, the underwriting environment is evolving. This presentation will look at local and international changes and the way we consider HIV, mental health and cancer. What are the impacts for underwriting, claims and product development?

Improvements in the life insurance industry — understand the impact that health, well-being and rehabilitation are currently having on the industry. This discussion will also look at future developments in the consideration of the outcomes of the proposed ISWG (Insurance in Super Working Group) changes.

    Matthew has been with Aon since May 2008 and is currently a Client Director within the People Risk Specialties business. This role is focused on the provision of strategic advice and insurance placement services to an extensive corporate client base across all Health & Benefit subject matter areas including Life insurance, Accident & Health insurance and Private Health insurance.

    Matthew has extensive experience over more than 25 years across all aspects of employee benefit provision having worked over many years with both local and multinational organisations across a number of industries and segments in areas ranging from superannuation and retirement to risk management and insured benefits. He has wide ranging exposure across all relevant employee benefit insurance markets including Life insurance, General insurance (A&H), Private Health insurance and Workers’ Compensation. 

    Matthew has strong technical expertise in all employee benefit subject matter areas including global benefits provision and insurance placement. His focus is on delivering needs driven and value based outcomes for clients. 

    Matthew is currently the chair of the ANZIIF Life, Health & Retirement Income Faculty Advisory Board and a former member of the Private Health Insurance Intermediaries Association Board (PHIIA). 

    Before joining Aon in 2008, Matthew worked for Mercer in Australia for 16 years and Deutsche Asset Management for two years in various roles with a broad focus on superannuation and retirement savings, employee benefit program design and management, group insurance, general consulting, client management, new business generation, strategy setting and execution and team management and leadership.

    Monique joined the Hannover Re Sydney office early 2017 having transferred from their South African operations, where she commenced in 2012. Prior to that Monique worked for two years as a medical doctor for a direct insurer in South Africa. Monique has a multi-faceted role working closely with the underwriting team ensuring medical risk integrity is maintained across different underwriting channels,  assisting with complex medical claims as well as assisting the actuarial team with the pricing of medical risk changes within the market for both retail and group products.  After qualifying as a medical doctor, Monique also obtained two additional medical diplomas in Primary Emergency Care and Anaesthesiology as well as a certificate in Statistics in Medicine. Monique is also a member of ALUCA.

    John Myatt


    John Myatt is head of the insurance and financial services practice group at TurksLegal and has over 25 years’ experience in the sector. He advises clients on licensing, distribution, product and transactional issues, often in connection with dispute resolution and litigation.

    He has particular expertise in relation to policy interpretation, construction and compliance issues and has conducted major litigation in relation to insurance claims, investment products, financial planning advice, managed funds and unit pricing. John is a well-known presenter on insurance topics and his articles have been published in the Australian Superannuation Law Bulletin, Wickens Law of Life Insurance in Australia and the Australian Insurance Law Bulletin.

    Tim Tez re-joined AIA Australia as Chief Strategy Officer in February 2017.

    Tim has over 17 years of experience in the life insurance industry with an extensive background across distribution, operations, strategy, reinsurance, product, pricing, marketing, strategy and government relations.

    He previously worked for AIA where as Chief Marketing Officer he led the product, business development, pricing and marketing teams. During his initial stint at AIA Tim led the global team to successfully launch the world’s leading health & wellness program Vitality in Australia. Prior to AIA, Tim has worked in executive positions for MetLife, AXA and TAL.

    Tim is former Director of the Financial Services Council Life Insurance sub-committee and in 2015 was voted in the top 25 Chief Marketing Officers in Australia by CMO magazine. In 2016 his contribution to the industry was recognized by being voted “Asia’s Best Marketer” by CMO Asia.

    Tim has an MBA (Exec) from the Australian Graduate School of Management, a Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning from Finsia and a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics and Marketing) from Sydney University.
