Executive Manager Conduct & Culture (New Zealand), Chief Risk Office NZ

Clayton is IAG NZ’s Executive Manager, Conduct and Culture based in Christchurch. He started his career as a private practice commercial lawyer in Auckland before moving in-house with IAG NZ in 2007, and has subsequently taken up Risk roles within the IAG Group based in Melbourne in compliance and regulatory engagement. His last Australian role before moving back to New Zealand earlier this year was managing IAG’s responses and preparation for the Australian Royal Commission in Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services.

Clayton has found a strong interest the growing risk management area of conduct and culture having witnessed the fundamental paradigm shift occur in Australia within the financial services industry leading up to and post the Royal Commission. Particularly, he has observed the way that community and regulator expectations no longer accept “legally defensible” positions and require something more, and has a keen interest to help the insurance industry adapt to the new world.

Clayton returned to Christchurch in February this year with his wife and daughter to be closer to his wider family, having been away for 18 years after graduating from Canterbury University. He is expecting a new addition to the family in February and is very glad to be finally home.
